Friday the
26th April 1996 was the day that changed my life forever.
I was to undergo surgery on my brain, recent scans had shown that
a large tumour was present and was causing problems with my sight
and also pain in my left shoulder.
For the past 3 years I had been working in warehousing and I was
also a retained fireman which meant being on call 24 hours a day,
7 days a week.
I was also running in excess of 100 miles a week and I had taken
part in several half marathons and I was in training to do the London
marathon. I use to raise money for local charities and took a lot
of pride in doing so.
For 2 years prior to the 26th April 1996 my general practitioner
and eye specialist were treating my condition as a lazy muscle in
my right eye and at every optician check they increased the prescription
strength in the glasses but little did they know that the tumour
was already there and growing. |
