The allowance is not means tested, there are 2
components regarding this allowance.
Firstly the mobility component is made up as follows,
higher rate and lower rate, the rate consists of a benefit which
helps the disabled person live on a daily basis.
Firstly apply after you have needed help in getting around for
more than 3 month's, telephone BEL on 0800 882200, the mobility
component is paid at 2 levels and to make a claim you must satisfy
the person looking after your claim, or the adjudicator.
To make a claim you must have had difficulty in
walking any distance at all or via the disability you have lost
a leg or you are in great pain when walking or standing for any
length of time.
After sending in you claim form you could be awarded either the
lower or higher rate, the questionnaire form is very long and
quite confusing so if you
are in a position where you feel that you can't
fill it out for your own piece of mind make an appointment at
your local Citizen Advice Bureaux (CAB) they have trained staff
there to help you in your hour of need.
Once the form has been sent back make an appointment
to see your doctor or GP and tell them that you have made a claim
as the disability living allowance office will be getting in contact
with them to sign a declaration as to the extent of your disability.
The amount of money for the higher rate is £38.65
weekly and for the lower rate £14.65 per week, If for any
reason the adjudicator turns down your claim try again and make
a appeal against the decision.
